As I was driving home when I noticed a these clothes drying on a clothesline and thought it resembled our beautiful American flag gently blowing in the breeze so I had to pull over and snap a pic.
I am a firm believer that things turn out better when they are done properly from scratch. With that being said, out of exhaustion I chose to buy some sugar cookie mix and save myself some time…BIG mistake!!!
Not only did the cookies not hold their shape, now I just wasted precious time cutting & baking 3 batches of cookies! So I pull out my recipe book and make the cookies from scratch which I will just do in the future (thank you life for this great lesson).
Despite the false start, I love the way the ones from scratch turned out!
Alyssa decided she wanted to be Periwinkle and her Auntie Tracie agreed to be Tinkerbell for Alyssa’s Neverland birthday party. And Periwinkle can’t go to her party without her special shoes right?!
All it took was creative thinking, sparkly shoes, 2 white Pom Poms, long lasting craft glue, lots of
Fairy Dust and viola! Fairy shoes fit for Periwinkle or her lovely sister.
Sunday morning Alyssa snuck into our room already fully dressed, cowgirl boots on & hair combed and popped up at the foot of our bed and shouted WAKE UP MOM & DAD!!!! It was super cute and very surprising to say the least lol. She then pulled me out of bed because she needed help with her photo shoot. As soon as I walk into her room I immediately see her toys carefully posed on her bean bag ready for their 15 minutes of fame (seriously our little girl is so darn cute! I know…I know I’m totally biased)
Five years ago I was in labor with my little miracle and today I am experiencing labor pains again…like so long ago it is a labor of love (my back keeps cramping every 10 minutes or so, I keep sipping on water and ice chips, I just want to take a break but have to push through the exhaustion) but this time it is for Little Alyssa Hope’s birthday celebration.
I like to celebrate another healthy & happy year on a BIG scale so I know the last minute work in store for me the week of her birthday.
Currently what is causing my reflection on labor pains are little treats (they taste as good as they look…what? I had to taste test to make sure they taste ok…ok I didn’t have to necessarily have to eat one of every color but all I have to say is…yummmm tasty 😉 )
Cream Cheese Mints
1 package (8oz) Philadelphia Cream Cheese
1 package (2lbs) powdered sugar
1 package Duncan Hines peppermint stick flavor mix or approximately 10 drops of peppermint extract
Food coloring of choice
Granulated sugar (for rolling)
Candy Mold (optional)
• Using dough hook mix the cream cheese and slowly add powdered sugar until blended
• Section a hand size piece to work with and store the remaining mixture in a ziplock bag so it doesn’t dry out
• If using a candy mold roll a small amount of the mixture into the granulated sugar and press into mold.
• Turn the mold over and lightly tap the mint out
• Place on a cookie sheet to dry
• Eat & Enjoy 🙂
Yup there is definitely no rest for the wicked…
After staying up until 1am finishing my wedding bouquet I decided to do some cake pops (cake had already baked and cooled earlier in the evening) then at 2am I decided I had to go to bed. Yet at 7am I was wide awake so I finished the little treats to take into work for the winning team of a contest we ran.
Here are the finished products:
(I kept them simple yet delicious)
So Honey & I have always been completely honest with each other…sometimes to the point we get butt hurt. But we always talk it out and thankfully have only had 2 real fights in the years that we have been together. Well yesterday morning when Honey saw the bouquet I made he totally compared it to the medieval weapon with spikes!
So after spending most of the morning at work being hurt, I decided that he was right so I went out and purchased more shells, then after we got home Lyssa & I attempted to dissemble the first one the best we could to salvage my favorites pieces and tonight I made another go at it…I have to admit I am really happy in the end that he gave me his opinion because after I put the 2nd bouquet together…I like this one much much more!
