Ok I finally did it!
I have made the coolest lunch Alyssa has gotten yet 😄
This spook-tacular lunch consists of:
Tombstone = Ham & cheese sandwich
RIP = Candy lettering
Foliage = Broccoli
Fence = Carrots held together with kabob sticks
(pointy ends cut off)
Ghost = Peep
Jack-O-Lantern = Cutie with the face drawn on with a black sharpie
Sour cream & onion Pringles (Lyssa’s favorite)
Topped with a gummy tombstone
When my brother and I were growing up we were lucky enough to have very involved parents. On days we had good weather they had us outside being active, however on the days the weather forced us to stay inside they sometimes had a project for us. We were very lucky because both of our parents are artists and they taught us how to draw, paint, do pottery, etc. Now that my wonderful husband and I have our daughter we naturally want to be involved in her life also. So from a very early age we have positively encouraged her alone time where she can play and entertain herself for a bit, however we all enjoy our quality time together and when she has to stay inside due to weather or it simply just being too late to stay outside we have continued the tradition and do similar crafts with our little one. It’s wonderful knowing that she cherishes craft time and hopefully one day she will want to have that special time with her child.
Last night’s craft project was inspired by my brother (Alyssa’s Uncle Bubba…his childhood nickname has definitely stuck for a lifetime)
With the lights on…
Amazing view with the lights off
1 tsp – 1 Tbsp Gold glitter
1 tsp – 1 Tbsp Green glitter
1 tsp – 1 Tbsp Elmer’s glue
Liquid from a yellow glow stick
Clean jar with lid
Mix the glitter, glue & glow stick liquid into the jar
Put the lid on tight
Shake, shake @ shake some more 🙂
I am a firm believer that things turn out better when they are done properly from scratch. With that being said, out of exhaustion I chose to buy some sugar cookie mix and save myself some time…BIG mistake!!!
Not only did the cookies not hold their shape, now I just wasted precious time cutting & baking 3 batches of cookies! So I pull out my recipe book and make the cookies from scratch which I will just do in the future (thank you life for this great lesson).
Despite the false start, I love the way the ones from scratch turned out!
Had to compare both batches lol
Now THOSE are how sugar cookies are supposed to look 😀
As I was creating the dessert list for Alyssa’s Neverland Birthday party I wanted to make a treat that I haven’t made before but doable. In the end I chose to make chocolate covered oreos for the versatility in being able to cover them in any color and pair them with different toppers plus I knew that I wouldn’t be spending tons of time on tedious details (genius thought…I know 😉 )
I believe that Lyssa’s lunches should be a healthy choice but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be cool so after some google and Pinterest searches here are some of the lunches that I remembered to take pictures of
Last week we celebrated one of my good friend’s 25th birthday with a surprise party which was her loving hubby’s idea. Paul came to Alasha & I with the idea of throwing a party for the love of his life because she was reaching one of life’s milestone birthday and we immediately volunteered to help. Alasha made the reservation and gave out the invitations and I was in charge of getting the birthday girl to the restaurant and of course making the cake.
So Tracie thought that she and Paul were meeting Alyssa, Josh & I for dinner. And she never suspected otherwise so it was so cool to see the pure surprise when she saw her family and friends all sitting together and everyone yelled SURPRISE! It was truly awesome 🙂 All in all the evening was a success and after good food with good company we had dessert and finally went home after closing down the restaurant.
